My Funkadelic Post
What do you get when you fuse together dub, soul, rock, free jazz, counter culture, and drugs? Motherfucking Funkadelic. Starting as the back up band for the more commercial friendly Parliament, and ending up (after legal issues with Parliaments name) as the entire army, George Clinton and Bernie Worrell brought the fury of spaceship funk to the masses. Really, you should know already. Rick James tried, but couldn't hold a light to Funkadelic. They were sampled all over the place during the 90's West Coast G-Funk invasion, providing loops for such classics as Dr. Dre's The Chronic and Ice Cube's post Amerikka's Most Wanted records, as well as being used by East Coast space cadets Redman and Erick Sermon. Some people here may find these albums too soul-based, but I guarantee you won't find me a guitar player in today's indie scene who can tear it up like the opening guitar work of Maggot Brain. Drugs would eventually get the best of them, but during their hay day... As Redman would say, Ask me the flavor, make mines the P-Funk.
