Van Dyke Parks, who contributed lyrics to the Beach Boys' aborted "Smile" and orchestra direction to albums like Joanna Newsome's "Ys," is like the original Jon Brion. He was signed to a big contract by Warner Bros, who thought rock music was going to take more of a turn towards what Brian Wilson was doing on "Pet Sounds" rather than what the Beatles did on "Sgt. Pepper." They were wrong, and lost million of dollars, while rendering much of Van Dyke Parks career obscured. Blah de fucking blah. He's a great songwriter with a knack for production, and if you can imagine what Jon Brion would have done in the late 60's, this is what you get. Bit rate is 320.
