My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges (2008)

I promise to never rick roll you guys again. Pinky swear. This is the leak of MMJ's new album. And, though I only have got to listen to it once through, I was impressed.

Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs (2008)

So, apparently more people than not didn't get a laugh out of the rick roll. Sorry. Sort of. There was so much frustration over this leaking, that I thought it'd be funny to put some humor into it. Ah well. People don't want to laugh, they just want free music.

No Age - Nouns (2008)

Uh huh. Ok. What's up? Shut up!

It's leak time again, part 1. Haven't got a chance to listen yet.

MGMT - Time To Pretend (2005)

This is the EP that led to Oracular Spectacular. If nothing more, it's cool to hear the impact Dave Fridmann had on the group.

Six Organs Of Admittance - Shelter From The Ash (2007)

Do you like Bonnie 'Prince' Billy? Then you should have this. Dude is not quite evocative as Oldham, but it's there, in the same vein. Plodding and emotional, female back up vocals, trudging acoustics and sparse drums.

Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep (1997)

Horror core classic? I suppose. But this was not horror core so much as a well disguised effort in teaching 5% mathematics to a larger audience. Prince Paul and RZA combine during the height of their careers (I guess one could feasibly argue that Prince Paul plateau-d in the early 90's flower era, but regardless) to make a sonically twisted palate, while the raps keep the listener listening. 1-800 Suicide, which was undoubtedly grounds for reactionary lawsuits by parents, was not so much advocating suicide as it was wondering what the fuck is wrong with rich white kids, who, if they can't realize the opportunity they were born with, may as well kill themselves instead of bitching about it to some poor black kids raised backs against the wall. This sort of ideology is what makes this a classic - as relevant now as it was 11 years ago.

Can't say enough about this. If you listen closely you will see the genius of the lyrics here.

Diplo - FabricLive 24 (2005)

This is my favorite official blended mix since a Beat Junkies cassette I had back in high school (oh how I wish I could find a copy of that, but unfortunately Fat Beats doesn't carry dead stock on cassettes these days). This is get ready for the party music. This is get down to yr scivvies and dance around with yr girlfriend in your living room music. Man. The intergalatic fart sound Diplo uses between songs kills me every time.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Karen O At Home

I forget the complete details of this, but iirc this is a disc of demos and etc meant to be heard only by the producer from TV On The Radio, and that sexy bitch Karen O threw a shit fit all over her myspace blog when a random dude leaked it on the internet.  It's basically the stripped down, acoustic version of YYYs style music, and it's quite enjoyable.

Poor Righteous Teachers - New World Order (1996)

The 90's version of dead prez? While they were politically militant and anti-whitey, PRT probably resided somewhere between KRS-One (who appeared on this album) and dp. This is a highly underrated record, one that finds a reggae-tinged boom bap sound clashing against lyrics which revolve around the illuminati, Bush the first, and the horrors of crack cocaine. Plus the cover art is dope. If you find a physical copy of it (oop as far as I know), you will be delighted by the suggested reading of PRT, which includes Holy Blood, Holy Grail and Behold A Pale Horse.

Black Moth Super Rainbow

I'm editing my description. If Burial merged with Casper the Friendly Ghost and they played music in an episode of the Smurfs, you get Black Moth Super Rainbow. Yeah.

Pit Er Pat - Pyramids (1996)

More ghostly sounding goodies! This is so melodic and so sweet and sweeping and south west. Um, yeah, it's just really good, and doesn't get the day light (or night light, I suppose), it deserves.

El Guincho - Alegranza (2007)

Hasn't everyone already downloaded this? As you've undoubtedly heard, it's like a Carribean Panda Bear. Just in case, though, I'm posting it.

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti

Anyone ever read that 2012 book by Daniel Pinchbeck? This guy Ariel is writing Brian Wilson pop music from that in-between dimension full of spectral elves and polyurathine unicorns. There are odd tape contortions, like it was recorded on a 4 track through a 4 track through a jail meeting room telephone. Paw Tracks is so good.

Death Cab For Cutie

I know, I know. Trust me. How is it possible to like Death Cab and Pocahaunted equally? Like a 12 year old girl, IDK. Do they kind of come across as pretentious? Maybe. Are they really talented or musically revelatory? No. Did Postal Service in hindsight sound like the soundtrack to gay rodeo? Yeah. Did Chris Walla's solo album suck? Absolutely. Regardless, there is, imo, a time and place for good pop music, and essentially DCfC is mindless pop. But I'll be damned if those melodies aren't catchy as hell, and pull me into the emotion. Really, I'm just posting this to make up for acting like I had the leak or something (it's still only the fake being bandied about the internet).

Demos

So I'm interested to hear some demos. Been thinking about setting up an online distribution site or something for a tape label. Nothing big, but I want to at least get some demos coming in, and see what happens. If nothing else, I can always feature a good demo on here and get your bands name out. Email me = somanywheelchairs(at)gmail(dot)com, and let me know you're interested. I want hard copies though, like send me a tape or cdr or something.

Maybe no one will respond, but figured it can't hurt.

BTW, do not download the Death Cab for Cutie link in the Cbox. It's a bunch of songs from a band called Velveteens. They need to get their own sound, bunch of twats.

Islands - Arm's Way (2008)

I tempidly enjoyed Islands' last attempt at epic via quirk, but have yet to listen to this. Enjoy!

Terrestrial Tones - Dead Drunk (2006)

Terrestrial Tones is Avey Tare of Animal Collective and Eric Copeland of Black Dice exploring the noise rock that exists somewhere between the experimentation of 'Here Comes The Indian' or 'Hollinndagain' and the Black Dice catalogue. If you are more of a post-Sung Tongs AC fan, you probably won't like this too much at first, but stick with it and it will be like tree bark turning into aspirin.

DJ Shadow v. Avalanche

There is an argument taking place over on atease about who had the better sample-based album, The Avalanches 'Since I Left You' or DJ Shadow's 'Endtroducing.....' Well, since I already posted Endtroducing..... here, figured I'd up 'Private Press' instead, and let you decide for yrself.

Pocahaunted

These gurls are a huge part of the cassette uprising going on in parts of the 'ether' (shoutboxshoutout), where noise/drone/meditative riff bands that would normally be playing bowling alley bars are making their voices heard to bigger audiences than would have been previously afforded. Anyhow, they are good. Pocahaunted in particular are mildly ghostly, using a sort of free-form jazz with noise and excellent vocals. Shit sounds like it belongs on tapes. You will hear hissing on the recordings, too. Most of these dl's are one, two, or three song jaunts, but worth your time nonetheless.

Subtle - ExitingARM (2008)

Eminem would say: Ahh shit/ I started a moshpit/ squashed a bitch/ and lost her foster kid.

But seriously, folks. This is the real deal new Subtle leak. Get it, because it's good. You can tell they were touring with TV On The Radio while writing, and it was suggested on atease that Tunde is doing back up vocals. Synth lines kill it. What else can I say?

Download:Subtle's publicist apparently asked that i take down the link. Done. Support it when it drops, peoples.

Beach House

Because I feel a need to promote the shit out of this band. It's downtempo kind of indie folk I guess, though that doesn't begin to touch the depths they reach. No one else out really does what Beach House does, and even if they did, they couldn't do as well. It's sparse, almost like a faded memory of playing house with your kindergarden girlfriend in a faded blue concrete basement. MC Eiht would say ggggggeeeeeah.

Panda Bear - Self Titled (1st Album)

Someone asked for this, albeit a while ago. Like Shaq I stand & deliver. Not sure why, but the file was like 120 mb, so it's split down the middle like butts.

Lewis & Clarke - Blasts Of Holy Birth (2007)

Sometimes stuff gets overlooked or skimmed over as a result of the mass amount of music coming out, and this is one of those small, Rawandan tragedies. Blasts of Holy Birth is not only a super sweet title for an album, it actually kind of describes the sound. Bit rate is 320, so it's broken like my emo little heart.

Gil-Scott Heron - Pieces Of A Man (1971)

This is like Saul Williams thirty years before 'Slam' arrived. "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" is Scott-Heron's most well-known piece, but it's the song Kanye West sampled for "My Way Home," the Common-only rapping song from Late Registration, "Home Is Where The Hatred Is" that steals the show.

Scientist - Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of Vampires (1981)

Hot shit reggae dub right here. If you liked the Jonny Greenwood trojan dub mix (which you should have), or any other trojan stuff for that matter, cop this. Because that spaced out dub is the best.

Download: Mediafire

Digable Planets - Blowout Comb (1994)

Like A Tribe Called Quest, but somehow more, um, revolutionary, Digable Planets was real good (though, admittedly I slept on them for a while). This is NOT the one with Cool Like Dat, this is the super underrated sophomore album. I'm pushing my weight around on this, hoping to shed some light. There are so many samples that were jacked at a later time, i.e. the sample Dre would use for Let Me Ride.

Flight Of The Conchords - Self-Titled (2008)

HBO has been good to us. Real good to us. I mean, Curb Your Enthusiasm is the second best tv show of all time (Wonder Showzen represent), and Real Sex basically got me through middle school, when my dad was ripping off cable from the pole (like father, like son I suppose). And they gave us Flight Of The Conchords. You already know the deal, and now you have their long player.
