I promise to never rick roll you guys again. Pinky swear. This is the leak of MMJ's new album. And, though I only have got to listen to it once through, I was impressed.
I agree with bodo, this is MMJ getting away from what they do best and experimenting for experimentation's sake. They're seemingly more interested in making different-sounding records than good songs. Even if the production values weren't so drastically different from previous records (anyone that has a functioning pair of ears can notice this), I'd still argue that the songs aren't as good. The lyrics are silly, Jim James is using his voice in new and disagreeable ways, and the thundering drums have been replaced by dry samples. What happened to the dripping-fucking-wet reverb of the past? The soaring vocals? A band can and should evolve, but this is a step in the wrong direction.
I LOVE MUSIC. YOU LOVE MUSIC. THAT'S OBVIOUS BECAUSE WE'RE BOTH HERE. IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE ARTS IN OUR LIVES BECAUSE IT BRINGS ABOUT AN ABSTRACT UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD AROUND US WHICH HELPS US COMPREHEND OURSELVES AND OTHERS MORE COMPLETELY...
I'M SURE LEGALLY SAYING THIS DOESN'T REALLY SAVE MY ASS ANYMORE THAN IF I DON'T, BUT IT'S NOT WORTH RISKING. DOWNLOADS ARE MEANT TO BE USED AS A 24 HOUR PREVIEW OF AN ALBUM TO SEE IF YOU LIKE IT ENOUGH TO BUY IT OR NOT. BESIDES, AS MUCH AS WE LOVE MUSIC, WE MUST THEN INHERENTLY HAVE LOVE FOR THE ARTISTS BEHIND THE MUSIC, AND IF YOU LIKE THE BAND/ARTIST A LOT, DO THE RIGHT THING. I THINK YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS.

Yeah, I got this earlier today.
So far, so good, although there are a couple songs that are just too silly/annoying sounding.
Thanks!

What happened to the whole, "we always record in a grain silo" vibe?
Somebody is right about the Prince thing.
Damn it! I got here too late. It's gone.
